For those of you who do not, it's a title of an REO Speedwagon song.

But to me this is more than just a song title, for me it has a special meaning. To me, it means that it's time for me to grow up, assert myself, and finally finish my education. Eventually, a wife and children will come into the picture, but for right now becoming a Ph.D. is my goal.

My parents know that in just a little over a month, I'll pack up and move into the dorm at school. For them this goodbye will be bittersweet because they want to see me be successful, but then again they still want to see me.

In closing, I want to extend a special message to all the parents in the blogosphere who have children leaving to go great distances to college, and the message is thus; TRUST. Trust that we will make the right decisions, but trust that we will learn from the bad ones. Trust that our college administrators have our best interests in mind as they make decisions. Lastly, trust that, when we come to a fork in the road and we're lost and on our own, we'll remember all the things that we were taught and we'll take the path that leads to success to happiness.

UCF, Here I come!!!!!

Well folks, it's been a long and desperate road that I've been on these last 6 months or so, but now I think I've finally gotten my shit together.

After applying to job after job after job, I just said "FUCK IT" and I'm going to scrape the money together and get my books. Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom. After a lengthy appeal process the case has been dismissed and the Ten Commandments remain on display.

"AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL"
America the Beautiful, or so you used to be. Land of the Pilgrims' pride; I'm glad they'll never see. Babies piled in dumpsters, Abortion on demand, Oh, sweet land of liberty, your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly poisoned by cocaine, Choosing to indulge their lusts, when God has said abstain. From sea to shining sea, our Nation turns away From the teaching of God's love and a need to always pray. So many worldly preachers tell lies about our Rock, Saying God is going broke so they can fleece the flock. We've kept God in our temples, how callous we have grown. When earth is but His footstool, and Heaven is His throne.

We've voted in a government that's rotting at the core, Appointing Godless Judges who throw reason out the door, Too soft to place a killer in a well deserved tomb, But brave enough to kill a baby before he leaves the womb. You think that God's not angry, that our land's a moral slum? How much longer will He wait before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God, from Whom we cannot hide? What then is left for us to do, but stem this evil tide? If we who are His children, will humbly turn and pray; Seek His holy face and mend our evil way: Then God will hear from Heaven and forgive us of our sins, He'll heal our sickly land and those who live within. But, America the Beautiful, if you don't then you will see, A sad but Holy God withdraw His hand from Thee.

Judge Roy Moore

Any job is better than no job

That line has been told to me by many people, but what can one do if no place will hire you? I'm going to just go wild with this entry and talk about all the wild stuff that happened.

By the way, AMTRAK sucks!!!!! I took the train down there and it was the roughest ride I have ever experienced. You'd think that being on smooth metal tracks would warrant a smooth trip, yeah right!!!!

The first night we went to Platinum Showgirls strip club and we got raped by the fucking manager there. She took $500 off me all I got was an incredible hard-on from Amber, the 20 year old stripper.

I made it to my hotel, the Crowne Plaza Singer Island, and my room was amazing. I got settled in, hit the beach for a couple hours, then made it down for the rehearsal and dinner. My dinner was awesome, I had Chicken Alfredo and chocolate cake. Across from me, sat a charming young woman named Natalie. She was a bridesmaid and I was a groomsman. She was pretty cool, and as things progressed she became a little flirty. She would give me a lot of eye contact and then look away then look back again and smile then look away. She did this all the while we sat near each other. In my head, I'm dancing a jig, I'm walking on air. Then I get to meet her boyfriend of one month.

The ceremony was beautiful and everything worked out as planned. All the bridesmaids were absolutely stunning in their dresses and, of course, yours truly looked exceptionally good in his tux. After the ceremony, around midnight, we decided that it would be cool to go for a dip in the Atlantic. Swimming at night while drunk, that could only mean one thing...chicks getting naked!!!! One girl I knew from college, was fully nude and I saw everything. I waited four years to see her uncovered and to think, all it took were several drinks from the bar. Guess who else showed up? Natalie and her boyfriend.

Natalie was sporting a nice set of boobies. Her boyfriend was in one of his moods and he was all pissy, so he left her standing on the beach without a shirt on. I went up and talked to her again and she proceeded to tell me how conservative she was just as her hands went up in the air and her breasts became acquainted with the midnight air.

Well by the end of the night, her boyfriend was so pissed he left her standing alone outside without any pants on and just a soaking wet t-shirt. He's such a douchebag. The way he treated her was just fucked up. But she made excuses for him and in her mind, everything was ok.

I finally left from the West Palm Beach train station and I began to cry because I realized that I had fallen in love with her. I don't know if she felt the same way, but I would love to talk to her again and tell her what's up. I hope this isn't just infatuation, but love. I never went there expecting to meet anyone but I did and somehow I felt something between us. If I do get to talk with her again, hopefully, it'll be a warm reception. Well I'm rambling now, time to end.

Exclusivity in the Minstry

When someone conjours up an image of what a minister should be, they imagine someone who is kind, caring, and 100% devoted to serving God. I'd like to share a personal anecdote with you in hopes of giving you some insight as to what a minister should be and what they actually are (some of them).

In 2004, I felt a need to pursue the ministry, so I sent letters, emails, and applications to all the appropriate people and was granted acceptance to an LCMS seminary contingent on passing an interview. So, I thought, no sweat, this interview will be nothing. Well, by the time I left, I wanted to cry and I was totally beside myself because some jerks, who call themselves "men of God", thought I wasn't good enough to serve as a minister because I went to a Methodist college and temporarily attended a non-LCMS church. So, what you're saying is, I'm a Christian, but I'm not the "right" kind of Christian to serve God? As strange as it may sound, it's true (according to the LCMS).
Well I gave up going to church because I felt that all anyone needed was to maintain their Christian faith and they would be spiritually fulfilled. My church recently called a new minister, so I thought that I'd go and hear a sermon of his. He was cool, but he had a funny way about him. What I mean by that is; you'd say "hi" to him and he'd say it back and that would be the end of it; however, he'd see someone else and he'd strike up a 20 minute conversation with them. What's even funnier is that he wouldn't have even known us. He makes no effort to know his congregation!!!

Sorry for the negativity, but I'm tired of these minsters running the church like it's their own personal show. I thought Christ was the foundation of the church not money, political influence, or social status. What does this verse say to you: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.Mark 16:14-16

Here's a hint: Jesus didn't say, "ok I want you three to preach to the Israelites only." No sir, he said preach to every creature!!!!

The Almighty Dollar

In my youth, I may have developed hopelessly idealistic views of society. I often criticize the various rules and regulations that we have because it is my right and my duty.

Here's a rule that you may or may not have known: it is illegal to be broke. Yes it's true, you cannot not have money or else they will charge you money.

YOU GET CHARGED MONEY FOR NOT HAVING MONEY!!!!! This is one of the stupidest things that our country has ever come up with. Granted, such things as the Pet Rock and the Ford Pinto were stupid, but this has sunk to a new low.

A free checking account, which I have, is charging me money for not having any money in my account. What kind of bullshit is that? Why not? I pondered this question many times and it seems as though employers just don't give a flying fuck when it comes to you having a college degree. They want two things: experience and/or certification as something useful to society.

EXPERIENCE??? When could I have gotten this experience? Should I have taken a break from writing my 13 page paper or just given up on my research and said, "you know what, fuck it, let's go and drive a forklift, so we can get work when we leave here."

Here's a quandry to mull over: my degree is shit without further work in the field, but in order to go on, one needs money for school.

I had a fight with my parents about finding a job, and I just said, "I don't care." I get the same song and dance from every potential employer:

Me: "I'm calling about my application that I turned in several days ago"

Them: "Well, if we are interested in you then we'll call you."

Me: "I was told that you would call me back if you are interested, I'm just trying to do a follow-up because I haven't heard from you."

Them: "The position has been filled."

Doesn't matter if it's McDonald's or Microsoft, I get turned down no matter where I apply. The neighborhood kids were having a water gun fight and of course things turned ugly. To make a long story short, four kids (ages ranging from 4-8) knocked this other kid to the ground and started kicking him in the stomach and shooting him with water. Needless to say, the boy was hurt and was crying.

Now, I had spoken with their father (who is an ex-gang member) previously about rap music and he said that he allows it, but he tells his kids not to live it. Why is this a bad thing? Well when you have non-believers who want to know Christ and they hear that music, it turns them away because the music is esoteric and it's a little too whiny.

Fear Not, my brethren!! For I give you hope in the form of a band called Flyleaf. Yes, this band spews out lyrics that would make the pope proud and they do it in a new melodic style known as "screamo". I have no problem with that, however; at the end of the commercial they couldn't resist adding a plug about their new, patented "Dieter's Water".

DIETER'S WATER!!!! Does anyone find this to be as stupid as I think it is? Since when has Zepyhrhills or Aquafina become so fattening that we have to invent a special kind of water that helps burn fat?

Only in America do we go to such great lengths to become the people everyone in our society wants us to be.

V For Vendetta

Tonight I saw a show on MTV about the new box office thriller V For Vendetta. On it, there was a forum, of sorts, that included several twenty-somethings expressing their opinions on the film and Natalie Portman fielding questions from the same group.

Some of the opinions expressed by these "geo-political experts" were so far-fetched that it boggles the mind to wonder where in hell they came up with that bullshit. For example, one young person felt that the movie was sympathetic towards Al-Qaeda and its motives. They also accused Natalie Portman of being an "apologetic of Al-Qaeda" because of her role in the movie.

Has our "great nation" become besmirched with conspiracy theories and crackpot opinions? Granted I love the USA, but it doesn't help matters when the Government uses threats of terrorism to instill fear and thus bring about obedience.

Anyway, back to the movie, I plan on seeing the movie because of the action and because of the great reviews. These days, one has to wonder, can anyone just see a film and admire it for its cinematic quality?

Welcome friends and family!!

This is my new blog. I hope to add some interesting stuff on here and hopefully turn this into something great!!!

For all of you who are uninitiated, I'm Adam Fisher and I hail from Winter Haven, FL. I recently graduated from Florida Southern College with a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology. It's been a long, hard road, but I think I may have finally gotten some concrete plans for graduate school.

I will [hopefully] attend the University of Central Florida in Orlando, for my M.A. in Applied Sociology and then stay there and work on my Ph.D. in the same field.

Many Happy Musings,

Adam
